“China and Venezuela are good friends and partners, and no matter how international circumstances change, China will continue to support Venezuela in defending its sovereignty and national dignity, as well as in the country’s economic and social development,” Wang stated.
He conveyed the greetings of Chinese President Xi Jinping and congratulated President Nicolas Maduro on his re-election as president.
“The Venezuelan people will unite and overcome the challenges, achieving new successes in the country’s development,” stated the Chinese foreign minister.
For his part, Gil emphasized that last year, the presidents of Venezuela and China elevated their relations to an “unbreakable strategic partnership,” and this year marks the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, marking a “key moment” in their bilateral history. Gil also confirmed that Venezuela is “China’s most reliable partner,” committed to continuing to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Wang’s visit to the U.S. is part of his participation in the 79th United Nations General Assembly, where he represents China and will seek support from the Global South at a time of friction with the West.
The minister, who will be in New York until September 28 as Xi’s special envoy, will also attend the high-level debate of the Security Council and hold meetings with his counterparts from the Group of Twenty most developed and emerging countries (G20) and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, plus Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia).
